Major components of the tumor microenvironment. The tumor microenvironment refers to a complex and tumorigenic ecosystem comprised of multiple cell types (immune cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells), as well as extracellular components including extracellular matrix (ECM) and secreted mediators (growth factors and cytokines, chemokines). Tumor cells can communicate bidirectionally with the surrounding tumor microenvironment and are nourished by limited or poorly differentiated blood vessels
